Mike Esposito, a member of the Jacksonville University Shooting Team, recently led his team to a Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championship and four other national titles in Sporting Clays, Handicap Trap, Trap Doubles and Skeet Doubles on July 13-18, at the World Shooting Complex in Sparta, Illinois.
Competing against more than 2,500 high school and collegiate athletes in the biggest SCTP Nationals to date, Esposito accomplished the rare mark of hitting a perfect 100/100 in Sporting Clays his first day, becoming the SCTP Collegiate National High Over All Champion in Sporting Clays.
“It feels incredible,” Esposito said. “I still can't believe it! I worked my tail off to get to this point. That had been my main goal and focus for the past two years. All the blood, sweat and tears finally paid off. But I couldn't have done it alone; I had some great coaching and some help from friends along the way, especially the support of my family and close friends.”
Flagler swimmers earn top finishes in ocean marathon
Several Flagler residents topped their competition at the Jacksonville Ocean Marathon that was held Saturday, Aug.15, in Jacksonville Beach.
In the 2.5-Mile Ocean Marathon, Sheryl Watkins finished first in the women’s 50-54 division, and Kate Sussman also grabbed the top spot in the 55-59 group. On the men’s side, Glenn Partelow won in the 65-69 division.
In the 1.25-Mile Ocean Marathon, Shaun Haire took first in the men’s 50-54 division. Sherry came in second in the women’s 55-59 group, and Gerald Keyes got fourth in the men’s 55-59 division.
Colasanti will run at Flagler
Recent Matanzas graduate, Anthony Colasanti, received a scholarship from Flagler College to run cross country and track. Colasanti was a three-year letter winner in cross country and track, and he earned All-St. Johns River Conference honors in cross country in 2013 and 2014. In track, his personal records were a 4:37 (1600m), 10:19 (3200m) and 16:46 (5000m).
Flagler baseball merges for coach’s clinic
Flagler Palm Coast’s coaching staff, along with Matanzas’ staff and the Palm Coast Little League, will be hosting a free coach’s clinic for all youth and travel ball coaches in Palm Coast. They will be presenting drills and innovative ideas to coaches in attendance for them to use with their teams.
The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday Sept. 19, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.
