The Oblouk family was greeted by the Publix staff with balloons, noise makers and confetti at the check-out line on the morning of Aug. 27. An enormous check to signify the $100 worth of groceries was presented to Maria Oblouk and her children by General Manager Penn Walker.
“We are so excited to be randomly chosen for this donation. We feel very blessed,” said Maria Oblouk, the mother of three.
The Publix franchise is celebrating its 85th anniversary this month in six different states by donating $100 worth of groceries to a local family in each community. In Flagler County, the Publix on the intersection of Florida Park Drive and Palm Coast Parkway was chosen to present a check to a random local family. Walker chose a family who are dedicated shoppers at Publix and also has many mouths to feed at home. The family of five resides in Palm Coast and shops at Publix nearly every day to keep fresh produce on the table.
Each month this year, every Publix is giving back to the community by honoring a lesson from the founder George Jenkins. This month is dedicated to this lesson: “Treat our customers like kings and queens."
