The Olive Garden was the site of Betty Schoch's 95th birthday party where she was surrounded by 20 friends and family from the northeast and as far away as Ireland. Schoch was born in Altoona, Pa. A U.S. Air Force bride, she lived in many states, including Alaska when it became a state and finally moving to Palm Coast in 1999.
The Flagler Beach Fire Department will conduct their annual “Fill the Boot Drive” to help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Local fire fighters will be at the intersection of State Roads 100 and A1A the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6. This is the 61st year MDA has had their Labor Day fundraising drive. The fire fighters hope to surpass their goal of $5,000. All proceeds go directly to MDA.
The United Way Women's Initiative of Flagler presented checks to two organizations, Flagler Volunteer Services and the Family Life Center. On Monday, Aug. 24, a check for $1,000 was presented to Flagler Volunteer Services for their Reading Pals program. The second check for $4,000 was presented on Friday, Aug. 28 to the Family Life Center for their various programs.
Local Residents earn degree from Western Governors University
The following Palm Coast residents earned their degrees from Western Governors University on Saturday, Aug. 15 in Salt Lake City, Utah: Anna Kiser, Master of Science in Nursing – Education; Sarah Vonkieckebusch, Bachelor of
Science in Nursing; Stacey Mundo, Master of Science in Educational Leadership; Christine Deising, Master of Science in Nursing - Leadership and Management; Tracey Heatwole, Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management; Reza Alamalhodaei, MBA in Management and Strategy; and Christopher O'Reilly, Master of Science in Information Security and Assurance.
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Jim Booe Chapter 86 of Flagler County, Florida, has relocated its chapter headquarters from 208 S. 6th St., Flagler Beach to 27 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast.
“By moving to our new location building, our DAV chapter will be able to serve the members of our county more effectively," said Raymond A. Parker, Chapter 86 Commander. “Our new location is more centrally located and provides additional free parking for the membership. We feel our move to the new building will give disabled veterans within Flagler County improved access to the services we provide, and contribute significantly to our ability for outstanding service. Our new professional office space demonstrates our commitment to ensuring those who served our country and their families receive the care they earned.”
Chapter 86 of the DAV provides free, professional assistance to local disabled veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies of government. Services provided depend on the immediate needs of the veteran. Most-requested services include transportation to VA medical facilities, medical claims services, homeless or at-risk homeless veterans outreach services, and education regarding benefits and services. Children's Miracle Network fundraiser
Three Ace Hardware locations in Flagler County will be participating in the Ace Bucket Promotion on Saturday, Sept. 5 to benefit the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The Bucket Promotion gives a 20 percent discount on anything that will fit in the $5 limited edition CMN Hospital buckets. One hundred percent of bucket sales benefit the Children's Miracle Network.
