Team Flagler 60s recently beat Atlanta Recycling 19-4 to win the 2015 ISSA U.S. Southern Championship on Saturday, July 12 in Auburn, Alabama.
Steve Bolter led the team throughout the tournament, going near perfect with a .923 batting average. Pitcher and leadoff batter Jim "Zeke" Zgorzelski, batted a .706 while he, along with the defense, held the other teams to just 27 runs in four games. Third baseman Bill Collum’s 10 RBI’s over the tournament led the team.
Zgorzelski, Bolter, Bill Martin (.625) and Dave Stoverink (.615) were all selected to the All-Tournament team; Zgorzelski also won MVP honors.
Team Flagler now qualifies for the World Tournament, which will be held on Sunday through Tuesday, Jan. 23-25, in Tampa. To help fund their season, the men will be hosting a golf tournament Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Pine Lakes Golf Course. All are welcome, and lunch and prizes will be provided at the end of gameplay. Let the races begin!
Flagler Palm Coast cross country kicked off the season with its first meet, Spikes and Spurs Cross Country Classic Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Flagler County Fairgrounds.
Justin Pacifico led all Bulldogs with a fourth-place finish in 16:21, and Ka’Deem Wynn placed 23rd with 17:11. Jonathan Ling also finished in the Top 50 at 48th.
Anna Walls cross the line at 21:33 to get 30th for the girls race, and Cianna Gopie placed 42nd to top off the Lady Bulldogs.
FPC’s next meet is the Katie Caples Invitational Saturday, Sept. 12, in Jacksonville at Bishop Kenny High School.
Pak’s Karate Belt Testing
Pak’s Karate held its third quarterly belt testing Saturday, Aug. 15, at its location at 2323 N. State St. in Bunnell. A Black Belt testing also took place Saturday, August 8, at the United Tang Soo Do Federation Headquarters, where four students earned black belts, and Master Vincent Maccerone, who was been training since the age of 4, was promoted to a fifth-degree black belt.

FPC lady bowlers win home opener
The Lady Bulldogs bowling team swept University in their home opener Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Palm Coast Lanes to get to remain undefeated the young season.
FPC outscored the Lady Titans 601-493, 613-569, 548-517. Serena Pezzullo, who recorded a 200 game, and Shelby Taulbee led the Lady Bulldogs with top scores.
The boys were beaten By University, but Jonathan Tamayo rolled a 204 and 256 in two of his three games.
Flagler Falcons win first games
The Flagler Falcons teams began their seasons with wins over Mandarin Saturday, Aug. 29, at Eddie Johnson Park.
The 6U team had a forfeit win because the team showed up short handed, but they still played a scrimmage. The 8Us blew out their opponents, winning 38-0, and 10U also won 21-6. The 12U game came down to the wire with a 12-6 victory. Most of the game was 6-6, until the final minutes when the Falcons capitalized on a late turnover to win.
The week the Falcons will play Woodland Acres Saturday, Sept. 5, in Woodland Acres at Abess Park at 191 Girvin Road in Jacksonville. This will also be the season opener for the defending national runner-up 14U team.
