Community members took their rackets to the Florida Tennis Center Nov. 22 and joined Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center pediatricians Dr. Shilpa Sulochana and Dr. Mihir Tolat for a day of fun on the court.
Because obesity can lead to many chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and even cancer, Sulochana and Tolat strongly encouraged families to exercise regularly.
“Tennis is a great way to improve aerobic fitness, strength training, and agility, all in one activity,” said Tolat.
“Approximately 65 percent of Florida's adults are obese or overweight,” Sulochana said. “My hope for today’s event is that we helped families see how easy it is to incorporate exercise in a fun way to help curb the trend of obesity in our state.”
