“We wanted to have voices from every corner of Palm Coast; we are truly a community chorus.” Hawley Rogers, President of the Community Chorus of Palm Coast
Sixty voices rose and fell in beautiful synchrony at the Trinity Presbyterian Church on Friday evening, Dec. 11. The Community Chorus of Palm Coast choir members had practiced tirelessly for the holiday concert every week since September.
“We held our first ever holiday concert in January of last year,” President of the Community Chorus of Palm Coast Hawley Rogers said. “The audience was very enthusiastic, with over 400 people spilling into the isles, the show was very well received.”
This year’s concert proved to be another big success. The choir sang a range of holiday inspired music including: “What Sweeter Music,” “O Holy Night,” and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”
Since the founding of the chorus in 2010, the group performs one fall and one spring concert, twice yearly at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Otherwise, the talented group is in high demand and is kept busy throughout the year at special city events.
“We started off as a small group of about 10 members,” Founding President Priscilla Cahill said. “Initially the choir was formed because we wanted to sing a larger variety of material beyond church music.”
With 25 years of previous experience as a music director, Linda Hodges was appointed to direct the choir. At first she approached the idea with slight apprehension, until convinced by her fellow choir members.
“We told her, ‘Just provide us with the material, and we will take care of the rest,’” Cahill said. Almost six years later the choir has grown substantially larger and continues to build momentum.
“The most rewarding aspect of being a part of this wonderful choir is the realization that our talents are still growing,” Rogers said. “Our music director, Linda Hodges, works with all of us to make us even better.”
