Matanzas suffers first loss
The Pirates were not able to stay undefeated as they fell to the Ponte Vedra Sharks 4-0 Monday, Dec. 14, at Matanzas.
“I thought we were a little confident beyond our ability at times, and I thought we needed to be humbled a little bit,” coach Rich Weber said. “This was a good benchmark game for us to say we have the potential to go forward. And, we’re playing for the end of January, not for now, so I’m OK with us being able to correct things.”
Ponte Vedra went into the game as the top-ranked team in 3A and the third-ranked team in the nation, according to Maxpreps, and Matanzas was ranked fifth in 3A.
The Pirates will look to bounce back when they play round No. 2 of the crosstown El Clasico against FPC on Saturday, Jan. 2, at Matanzas.
