The Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs (10-4-5, 8-0-2) had no problems shutting out the Mainland Bucs 6-0 in their final district meet of the regular season on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at FPC.
“Our problem has been we’re not finishing and scoring goals,” coach Pete Hald said. “We need to put teams away, and we just don’t have that right now. Although I was disappointed in that, we got to play everybody a lot, and we did play well. They only had one shot on frame against us. So, I’m glad we won, and we’re almost full strength, so that’s a positive.”
Julia Lombardo put the first ball in the net for a score (Emily Puentes assist) in the 16th minute of the first half, and Madison Hald (Jade Louis-Juene) and Saba Amiri (Lombardo) scored back-to-back around the 25th minute to put FPC up 3-0.
In the second half, Bailey Mills scored (Amiri), and Amiri and Hald (Madison Friedman) both found the net a second time for a total of six goals.
“We are creating chances, but we’re just not finishing, so I’m going to have to challenge them,” Hald added. “We’re definitely confident, and we’re getting better, and we have some tough teams to play before districts, but that’s just going to prepare us for what’s really important, which are districts. You want to play your best soccer in January, and we’re getting healthy and better, but we need to start finishing.”
Up next for the Lady Dawgs is the Julie Weber Invitational, which will take place from Dec. 18-22, in Lake Mary.
