Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center celebrated its annual Light of Love ceremony Dec. 3. to honor and remember loved ones during the Christmas season.
The event included the lighting of the hospital’s Christmas trees in the main lobby, music from the Indigo Christian Academy Children’s Choir and the hospital’s newest tradition, The Freedom Tree, which honors the armed forces. Specific patriotic ornaments were placed on the Freedom Tree, adorned with the names of those individuals who serve, or have served, the country.
“Tonight, we are here to share with you the love that you’re showing by putting names on the tree," said Michele Goeb-Burkett, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center chief nursing officer, in a press release. "This year, we are honored to also pay a special tribute to the defenders of the freedoms we as Americans hold dear. This sweet, simple ceremony means so much to everyone in the room.”
At FHMMC, community members and hospital employees placed a tag on the tree as a tribute to a friend or loved one for a $10 donation. Love Notes, which include 20 words or less, were also hung for a donation of $25. The names were recorded in a tribute book stationed beside the tree.
