Officers from the Ormond Beach Police Department are currently investigating an aggravative assault that started at San Marco Apartments and ended with a suicide on the side of I-95.
According to a police report, the officers responded to a report of an aggravated battery, and upon arrival to the complex on Williamson Boulevard, learned that the victim had ended her relationship with her boyfriend, 24-year-old Printence Dunkley. He then became upset, struck the victim and bound her hands using handcuffs.
During the altercation Dunkley allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and made a comment threatening murder and suicide. He then discharged the weapon once into the floor.
The victim was able to escape and ran to another apartment for help. Dunkley then fled the area in the victim’s personal car.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Central Communications Center contacted On-Star to locate the vehicle, which was found stationary on I-95, and disabled it through On-Star. Dunkley was found to have committed suicide inside the vehicle.
Dunkley was last known to reside with the victim, who is a Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy who was off-duty at the time of this incident. None of the victim's issued duty equipment other than a pair of handcuffs was involved in this incident. The vehicle used by Dunkley to flee the scene belongs to the victim. Dunkley's vehicle (also registered in the victim’s name) was located in the San Marco Apartment complex and was seized by the Ormond Beach Police as possible evidence.
The identity of the victim is not being released.
This investigation is on-going. Additional information will be provided in the morning.
