Dance companies in Flagler County pull together once a year, at the Flagler Auditorium, to support Arts in Education with beautifully choreographed performances. On Saturday, Dec. 19, 11 dance companies captivated the audience with an evening of dance to reinforce the importance of the arts within the community.
“Dance is something that I hold so close to my heart; I look forward to this event every year.” Director Jackie McDevitt
“Not only does dance strengthen the body physically, but by incorporating it within the school system, it reinforces good grades,” Flagler School of Dance Instructor and Flagler Palm Coast High School Supremacy dance team Choreographer Jose Soto explained. “In order for the kids to be involved in dancing they must maintain a good GPA.”
“Dance not only brings the kids inspiration, but also discipline, motivation and self-confidence,” Owner of Mia Bella Academy of Dance Brie Valent said. Valent is able to see how dance
influences the community from both perspectives, as the owner of a dance academy, and the mother of two young dancers, Jazmyne and J.R. Valent.
Founder of Dance Around Flagler, Jackie McDevitt has directed the event for the past six years. “Dance is something that I hold so close to my heart,” McDevitt said. “I look forward to this event every year.”
“This has been an amazing opportunity for all of Flagler’s dancers to celebrate the love of dance together,” Director of Flagler School of Dance Jeanna Reiter said.
