Austin Branning and Gerald Kitt took their five-minute “spotlight” time at the Tuesday, Dec. 15 school board meeting literally – they performed.
School board members left their seats on the dais, and settled into the audience, to enjoy the FPC thespian’s performance of “Voices from the High School.”
Jumping up on a table, something not often seen at school board meetings, while discussing Shakespearian speech, the two demonstrated how their high school team was able to earn 12 superior ratings at the District competition just a month before.
The performance for the board was a first-hand glimpse into talent the 20 high school thespians, 15 of whom performed a musical number at the competition.
Their next stop is Tampa in March 2016 for State competition.
“The State competition is four days in Tampa,” Kelly Rivera, FPC drama teacher said. “They get to work with professionals from Disney, Broadway, and Hollywood.”
The troupe will be performing two, one-act plays at 7 pm. Thursday, Feb. 4, and Friday, Feb. 5, and two performances at 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6 at the FPC Bistro, as a fundraiser to help absorb some of the 2016 competition expenses.
