No-cost Kidney Smart class

2 p.m. at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center (Cafeteria Annex), 301 Memorial Medical Parkway, Daytona Beach. Certified kidney care educators will teach you: how to create an action plan to manage your health, what causes kidney disease and how to delay its progression, what diet resources can help you manage your diet, why working may keep you happier and healthier and how insurance counselors can help you navigate coverage.

Ask the Expert: Heart Health Lecture

11 a.m. at the Ormond Beach YMCA. Experts in their field come to share their knowledge and offer helpful tips to the community. Free.

FRIDAY, JAN. 1

First Day Hike

7:45 a.m. at Tomoka Outpost, Tomoka State Park. Join Meret, long-time Tomoka birding expert, for a guided bird/nature walk in a birder’s paradise. All experience levels are welcome, although children must be supervised at all times. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, water, dress for weather conditions and don't forget your binoculars and camera. Reservations are required. Call 676-4050.

SATURDAY, JAN. 2

Lecture & a Latte: Animal Totems

8:30-9:30 a.m. at Java Jungle, 2450 S Ridgewood Ave, South Daytona. Presented by Blessings with Wings, LLC in partnership with Java Jungle. Join us for a robust discussion about the significance of animals and their energy as guides,oracles, and symbols in our journey. Make and take an animal totem. Cost is $11 and includes a cup coffee or tea.

Ormond Beach Garden Club
