The troop was given the key Jan. 20.
Boy Scouts of America Troop 404 received a key to the city from Mayor Ed Kelley Jan. 20. The Ormond Beach troop attended a city commission meeting where they are working on the “Citizenship in the Community” merit badge.
“What a great time we all had,” Senior Patrol Leader Eric Spear said. “It was an honor.”
The troop meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Riverside Church, 56 N. Beach St.
Scoutmaster of the Year named
At the Three Rivers District annual banquet, Mitch Dansby was name Scoutmaster of the Year. Scoutmaster Dansby is the scoutmaster of Troop 404 in Ormond Beach, and joined the troop in 2006. He became scoutmaster in 2011. Mitch Dansby also receive the District Award of Merit, which is the highest award given by a district.
On the same night his son, Clayton Dansby, was named the Top Eagle Scout of the Year for having the best eagle project for all of Volusia and Flagler counties. Clayton Dansby graduated from Seabreeze High School, and now goes to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Clayton is a Junior Asstaint Scoutmaster with the troop. This was the first time a scoutmaster and his son were name the Best Boy Scouts in the same year.
