Two Tomoka Elementary third-graders won a school-wide t-shirt design contest.

Tomoka Elementary School selected original artwork submitted by third-grade students Zeli Hayworth and Melissa Rowell to be used on official event t-shirts for the annual Tomoka Brave, Strong & Healthy 5K Run/Walk. Hayworth’s design will be featured on the front and Rowell’s design on the back of the shirts. The two winning artists are classmates in Sharon Belsky’s third-grade class.

The t-shirt contest is held every year, and is open to all students at the school. This year more than 50 different designs were submitted based on the “Brave, Healthy and Strong” theme. Tomoka Parent Teacher’s Association board members selected the two winners. The t-shirts are included in goody bags to the first 250 pre-registered participants.

This year’s race takes place at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 7 at the Ormond Beach Library. It is presented by Reunion Bank of Florida, and all proceeds benefit the Tomoka Elementary School PTA.
