A 19-year-old man met an 11-year-old girl on Facebook, talked to her about drinking booze, smoking pot and having sex, swapped sexual photos with her — then went to her home and raped her, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
Deputies arrested the suspect, Palm Coast resident Karl Westgate, Feb. 26 after an investigation spanning several weeks, according to the news release.
“We have been investigating this incident for approximately three weeks,” Sheriff James L. Manfre said in the news release. “Our major case detectives worked diligently to protect this young victim."
They have charged him with lewd or lascivious molestation, sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age, computer pornography transmission and child exploitation, and promoting sexual performance by a child.
Westgate is being held in the Flagler County jail without bond.
