The following is an adapted news release from the Flagler County communications office:
Construction is complete on the bridge over Middle Haw Creek, the last of seven bridges being replaced on County Road 305, and it will temporarily reopen to traffic on Friday, Jan. 9.
But west side county travelers only have the weekend to experience the new bridge on the county road: On Monday, Jan. 12, the roadway will again close to through traffic as workers replace a culvert just north of County Road 2006. Construction is expected to take about 45 days.
The construction is part of a plan to replace all seven bridges and several culverts on the heavily used County Road 305 and widen the road to bring it up to current road and safety standards.
Most of the work is being paid for by Florida Department of Transportation grants. Once work is complete on the culvert, another culvert just north of the “S” turns on County Road 305 will be the final project and close the road sometime in March for an additional 45 days.
Work on the culverts is being done by AWA Contractors of Jacksonville and construction inspection and engineering review is being done by England Thims and Miller of Jacksonville. The cost of the project to replace the culverts is $670,083 and is being paid for by a Florida Department of Transportation grant.
