Rep. Travis Huston won the Republican primary election for the state Senate District 6 seat with 63.19% of the Flagler County vote in an election that brought out 18.51% of the county’s eligible Republican voters — just 4,866 people.
Paul Renner won the Republican primary for the state House District 24 seat, bringing in 72.58% of the vote.
Neither race was anywhere near close in Flagler County: Hutson’s competitors, physician and District 17 Rep. Ronald "Doc" Renuart and former Flagler County Commission candidate Dennis McDonald, took 21.09% and 15.72% of the vote respectively.
Renner, an attorney who recently moved to Palm Coast, was contested by local news reporter Danielle Anderson, who took 13.73% of the Flagler County vote, and by former St. Johns County Commissioner Ron Sanchez, who took 13.69%.
Hutson had a close race only in Renuart’s home county of St. Johns, where Huston took 45.37% to Renuart’s 43.66. McDonald, the race’s only Flagler County resident, took 10.96%.
In Putnam County, Hutson took 69.02%, Renuart took 17.26% and McDonald took 13.72%. In Volusia County, Hutson took 56.40%, Renuart got 28.31% and McDonald got 15.29%.
In the House primary, Renner, a Palm Coast resident who far outspent both of his opponents, came in far ahead of them both in each county. In St. Johns County, he received 62.04% of the vote to Sanchez’s 29.05% and Anderson’s 8.90%; in Volusia County, he received 79.20% of the vote to Sanchez’s 11.93% and Anderson’s 8.86%.
The special general election for both seats will be held April 7.
