The city of Palm Coast has asked drivers to avoid using residential Florida Park Drive as a cut-through.

The following is a news release issued the city's communications office July 2:

Florida Park Drive is residential – with many pedestrians, children

The city of Palm Coast would like to remind all residents that Florida Park Drive is a busy roadway that runs through a residential neighborhood with many pedestrians, bicyclists and children at play in their yards.

The speed limit is 30 mph and is closely monitored and strictly enforced.

The city respectfully requests all residents to be considerate of their neighbors and use main roadways – rather than residential streets – whenever possible to get to their destinations.

On all roadways, but especially in residential areas where children and other pedestrians are likely to be walking or bicycling, follow the speed limit and watch carefully for pedestrians.

For Florida Park Drive, good alternatives for travel through Palm Coast are Palm Harbor Parkway and Old Kings Road.

The city of Palm Coast has been studying traffic on Florida Park Drive and plans to further evaluate traffic on the roadway in the future, after the Matanzas Interchange and related road improvements are completed, the Island Walk shopping center reopens, and Holland Park reconstruction is completed.

In the meantime, residents are asked to take a main roadway, rather than Florida Park Drive, whenever possible.

If motorists must use Florida Park Drive, be extra cautious about the speed limit and watching for pedestrians, bicyclists and children.
