Lady Renegades win championship

The 18U Lady Renegades team, of the OBYBSA, returned to Palm Coast with a champioonship trophy to present to their dads. They won first place at their Father’s Day tournament. The girls played a double-Texas tie-breaker to reach the championship game, and another Texas tie-breaker to win it.

“We have had our share of tie-breaker games in the past, but never have we had this many in back-to-back games,” said Traci Olsen, the team rep.

Weiss to shoot hoops in college

Brian Weiss of Ormond Beach signed to play basketball at Webber International University in Babson Park. Weiss, a 6-foot-2 point guard, who played his senior year for Spruce Creek, is among a few players this year in the county who signed with teams on the NAIA level or higher.

The signing took place at the Holly Hill YMCA among many friends and family members.

Weiss also received offers from Chatham University, SUNY Purchase College and Lees-McCrae College.

Beach fundraiser for Sandcrabs

Seabreeze Girls XC team is having a 5K “Run this Beach” Run/Walk fundraiser at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Andy Romano Park in Ormond Beach. It is a free event, but donations are welcome. Everyone is invited to run, walk or just visit. For questions, call 679-9706.

Celebration 5K run

Josh Tomlinson and Otto Hoover, both in the 30-34 division, finished 10th and 23rd overall, and second and fourth, respectively, in the Celebration 5K run Saturday, July 4, in Flagler Beach. Natasha Clark also finished fourth in the 20-24 division.
