UPDATED 12:36 p.m.
A 2-year-old child, Christofer Gallagher, died in a pond behind an Ormond Beach home on July 24. His listed residence was on Edgewater Drive, in Palm Coast, but he had recently moved with his mother to Ormond Beach. They had been staying with the child's grandmother.
The police report, an adaptation of which is presented below, had some errors in it, which were pointed out by the grandmother. Christopher is spelled with an "f," as Christofer. The resident who found Christofer was his father, and he was with his two young uncles. The child died in a pond, not a pool, as was originally reported. The date of death was July 24, not July 25.
The following is adapted from the narrative of the officer from the Ormond Beach Police Department:
On July 25, at 6:39 p.m., I was dispatched to Rainbow Falls Drive, in Ormond Beach, in reference to a CPR in progress. Upon arrival, I saw Officer Kenneth Dye performing CPR on Christopher Gallagher. Cpl. Borzner and I took over CPR; thenĀ EVAC arrived on scene and took over CPR and transported Christopher to Florida Hospital Memorial.
Another resident was sitting outside the home in the driveway, crying hysterically. As I entered the residence, others were inside crying. Christopher's mother, Xandra Gallagher, of Arbor Lake Park in Ormond Beach, was notified and responded to the hospital.
A witness said he went to the bathroom for five minutes, while two others were supposed to be keeping an eye on Christopher. After returning from the bathroom, the first witness said, he was unable to locate the child for five minutes until finally seeing him face down and blue in the pool.
