Palm Coast resident Lt. Richard Kocik, Firefighter-Paramedic, Bunnell Volunteer Fire Dept. was awarded the Sons of the American Revolution Fire Safety Medal & Certificate at the Bunnell city council meeting on July 27.
Presenter, President Randall Morris, said that. Kocik amassed more than 2,500 volunteer hours to the fire department and has trained many Bunnell volunteer firefighters for state certification as firefighters.
Kocik moved to Palm Coast in 1999 with his family and graduated from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 2004. During his high school years he was a member of the Boy Scout Firefighter Explorer Post in Palm Coast.
After graduation, he “pursued his lifelong desire to become a firefighter,” by joining the city of Palm Coast Fire Department as a volunteer, He completed his Florida minimum Fire Standards Requirements in 2007 and in 2010 he was state certified as a paramedic. He is currently employed as a firefighter/paramedic for Marion County Florida Fire Rescue.
In 2012, he joined the Bunnell Volunteer Fire Department, and in October 2014, he was promoted to Lieutenant. Recently, he became certified as a Florida Fire Instructor and is in charge of volunteer firefighter training.
During the past year he taught the “first ever” Firefighter I class for members of the Bunnell Volunteer Fire Department. This effort resulted in the fire department gaining three additional state certified Firefighters.
Kocik is currently instructing another group of Bunnell volunteer firefighters, ever strengthening the local fire department.
