Deputies arrested a 58-year-old Palm Coast man after he attacked a house guest with a machete, slicing the man's arm and threatening to kill him, according to Sheriff's Office reports.
The attacker, Pine Circle Drive resident Mayko Rodriguez, was standing in a neighbor's driveway when deputies were called out to the area to check reports of a physical disturbance Monday evening.
They found a box cutter in his pocket and two machetes, each about a foot long, on the ground nearby. Rodriguez smelled of alcohol, a deputy noted in an arrest affidavit.
The victim, Rafael Rodriquez, told deputies that he was at the home visiting his girlfriend, who lives at the same house as Mayko Rodriguez.
The two men began to argue as they sat down for dinner, and Rodriguez grabbed two machetes from the garage and "began swinging them over his head and threatened to physically harm the victim," according to the release.
"According to witnesses, Mayko was yelling 'I'll kill you' and yelling other vulgar language," according to a charging affidavit.
When the victim tried to block one of his attacker's swings, the blade struck him in the arm.
The victim's injuries were not life threatening, and emergency services personnel treated him at the scene.
Deputies arrested Rodriguez and charged him with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the affidavit. He is being held at the county jail on a combined $15,000 bond.
