Two killed in three-car crash in western Flagler June 19

Welaka, Florida residents George Brown and Sandra Brown died June 19 in a three-car crash at the Cody’s Corner intersection at County Road 304 and State Road 11 in western Flagler County. A third person, The Villages, Florida resident Meredith Holmes, was injured in the crash, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

George Brown, 60, was driving a 1991 New York Chrysler east on C.R. 304 at about 11:15 a.m. and had stopped at the intersection of with State Road 11, with Sandra Brown, 49, in the passenger seat. A second car, a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Holmes, 68, was headed south on S.R. 11.

At the same time, a 2005 Mack truck driven by Pierson, Florida resident Charles Bennett, 56, was stopped in the northbound lane of S.R.11 as Bennett waited to turn left onto C.R. 304.

George Brown “failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic,” according to the release, and entered h southbound lane of S.R. 11. Holmes’ Jetta, heading south on S.R. 11, struck Brown’s Chrysler on the driver’s side.

The Chrysler spun and was pushed southeast, and the right rear side of the car hit the front of the Mack truck in the northbound lane of S.R. 11. The Chrysler came to rest in the grass east of S.R. 11, facing southeast. The Mack came to rest in the northbound lane of S.R. 11.

George Brown and Sandra Brown both died in the crash, and Holmes was taken to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries. Bennett was not injured.
