Flagler students are near the top of the state in passing rates for algebra one exams, but closer to the middle of the pack in 10th-grade English language arts exams, according to data released by the state Friday.

The Flagler County School District ranked eighth out of the state’s 67 school districts in passing rates for algebra one end-of-course exams, and 34th in the state for passing rates in state 10th-grade English language arts exams, according to data released by the Florida Department of Education Friday, June 26.

An emailed memo sent Monday, June 29 from Flagler Schools Assessment Coordinator Shawn Schmidli to district officials and the local press noted that the district’s students had a passing rate of 79% in the algebra one exam, “well above the state passer rate of 67%,” but a passing rate of 54% — equal to the statewide rate — in the English language arts exam.
