All’s swale that ends swale

9:33 a.m. First block of Secretary Trail. Larceny.

A 24-year-old man told deputies someone stole his Scag Turf Tiger zero-turn riding lawnmower — worth about $12,000 — from his enclosed trailer sometime between 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23 Ë™and 8 a.m. Feb. 24. He’d left the trailer in Plantation Estates, and could see tire tracks running to nearby Secretary Trail from the FPL access road, he told deputies.

Neighbors told a deputy they saw a teenage boy riding the mower and another teenage boy following behind him on a bike at about 8 p.m. Feb. 23.

A Sheriff’s Office corporal arrived to canvass the area, followed the trail to the power line service road, and found the mower off the pathway.

Deputies notified the 24-year-old and planned to follow up on the case later.

Not the kind of thing usually lost in home renovations

12:31 p.m. First block of Shady Lane, Palm Coast. Lost property.

A 73-year-old woman stuck her loaded Colt Trooper Mark 3 .357 revolver and holster into a suitcase in her bedroom Feb. 10 while she had carpet installed in the house, then discovered Feb. 11 that the gun was missing.

She didn’t report it missing immediately because she was not sure if someone stole it or if she’d lost it.

A deputy wrote in an incident report, “At this point in time, not enough evidence exists to indicate a crime has occurred.” Deputies listed the gun’s serial number in a database as lost.

Playing with fire(works)

1:32 p.m. First block of Roxton Lane. Brush fire.

Someone called the Sheriff’s Office to report a brush fire, and said they’d seen a young boy playing in the area before it started.

The boy, an 8-year-old, “stood and watched for a few seconds,” then, when the person who called the Sheriff’s Office tried to ask him questions, “began to cry and ran into his home,” according to a deputy’s summary of the witness’ statement.

Deputies arrived at the scene, along with the Palm Coast Fire Department. The boy was in his room hiding under a blanket when deputies arrived, and his parents gave them permission to speak with him.

He said he’d found three fireworks and a lighter while he was playing in the woods, and lit them.

He told he deputies he did not mean to start the fire. A Sheriff’s Office lieutenant and a forest ranger talked to the boy about the danger of playing with fire and fireworks. “The investigation revealed that fire was not intentional and no criminal charges will be filed on the incident,” according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report.

March 2

Putting out fires

12:18 a.m. 200 block of Flagler Plaza Drive. Criminal mischief.

At about 7:19 p.m. March 1, a call came in to the Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatch line from a cell phone number traced to an inn on Plaza Drive. The Sheriff’s Office report doesn’t say what the call was in reference to.

A deputy went there and found the caller intoxicated, and, when he provided his ID, under the legal drinking age. They asked him what he was doing at the inn and he “stated that he was trying to catch up on some sleep and party a little with friends.”

He told deputies his room number.

A few hours later, at 11:07 p.m., deputies returned for a follow-up investigation on underage drinking.
The found a 19-year-old Palm Coast resident who’d been jailed last year for burglary and criminal mischief heading for the pool, wrapped in a comforter.

They spoke to him and he gave them permission to enter the hotel room, which found “in complete disarray.”

A vomit-covered set of linens lay on the bathroom floor. There were “numerous bottles of beer” on the TV stand, a large bottle of Fireball Whiskey on a table, a plastic water pipe with marijuana residue in a drawer, and yellow dust — which “appeared to be from a dispensed fire extinguisher” — all over the room’s furniture.

They found the used fire extinguisher down the hall.

Deputies photographed the room and arrested the 19-year-old on charges of criminal mischief causing damage between $200 and $1,000, possession of alcohol by someone under 21 and possession of drug paraphernalia.
