The Flagler County Republican Executive Committee not renew the Republican Club of Palm Coast’s charter because the club invited non-Republicans to speak at events without the Executive Committee’s authorization, according to a letter to the Club president from Flagler REC president Anne-Marie Shaffer.

The REC has also stated that it will not renew the Flagler County Republican Club’s charter.

“Since its founding, the RCPC has blatantly and repeatedly disregarded (Republican Party of Florida) Rules of Party Procedure Rule 1C, particularly the portion which states: ‘Under no circumstance shall a chartered club invite a non-Republican to be a guest speaker at a club meeting or function without prior approval of the County Republican Executive Committee Chairman,’” Shaffer wrote in the Feb. 18 letter to Republican Club of Palm Coast President Edward Fuller. “Attempts at correcting the misconduct of the RCPC have been ignored and the club continues to host non-Republicans without permission. The latest offense occurred on January 29, 2015, and was advertised in a local publication,” she continued.

The Republican Club of Palm Coast hosted Flagler County Department of Economic Development Executive Director Helga Van Eckert Jan. 29. The event was listed in the Palm Coast Observer’s calendar.

Shaffer sent a similar letter, also dated Feb. 18, to the Flagler County Republican Club. In that letter, Shaffer said the Flagler REC would not renew that club’s charter because the Club had “violated its current charter, put the Republican Party of Flagler County at risk of legal action, violated campaign finance law, and publically misrepresented itself as the authority of the Republican Party in Flagler County.”

Shaffer closed both letters by asking that the clubs “promptly comply with Republican Party of Florida Rules of Party Procedure Rule 1F” when their charters expire March 31. Rule 1F states that clubs whose charters are not renewed are to transfer all of their remaining assets to the Republican Party of Florida, which would then redistribute them to their county Republican Executive Committee.
