The following is a news release from the Flagler County Communications office:
There is light at the end of the road-work tunnel on County Road 305, as work has just begun on the third and final box culvert that needs to be replaced.
And while the detour rerouting traffic between Mahogany Boulevard and County Road 2006 reopened to traffic on Monday, a new detour was created simultaneously to the south between county roads 2006 and 110 to allow for the new construction.
That work began promptly Monday afternoon and is scheduled for completion on May 3, County Engineer Faith Alkhatib said. It rounds out about $20 million of roadwork, including the replacement of all seven bridges.
Federal stimulus and the Florida Department of Transportation funds have been used on the projects that run from State Road 100 to the Volusia County border.
“It’s a great accomplishment by Flagler County to get all these projects completed without any major issues and without local funding,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said.
Roadway improvements included roadway widening, milling and resurfacing and shoulder construction in addition to removing deficient drainage structures.
