Of all the aspects about the arrest of former Supervisor of Elections Kimberle Weeks on 12 felony charges related to allegedly recording conversations, the one that many seem to notice is her mug shot. It's hard to escape, considering it's been immortalized as a public record by a jail camera.
Weeks turned herself in, after a lengthy investigation, and her mug shot appeared to be more of a glamor shot, with her makeup and hair done perfectly in luxurious curls. Here is how a few of our readers reacted:
Michael Chiumento: "Not sure it's something to smile about?"
‪Sandi Sites‪: "It's a mug shot, Kimberle, not a glamour shot...‬"
‪Bon Bell‪: "Might tell you something that she's looking pretty confident.‬"
‪Cassandra L. Smith‪: "And smiling too? Wow.‬"
I asked an anonymous source about this and got an interesting tid bit. I tried to verify it but couldn't, so take it with a grain of salt. But apparently, on the day she resigned from office, she replaced her photograph on the wall, putting more of a glamor shot on the wall as she left. If that's true, the evidence has been removed: Weeks collected portraits of past supervisors and put them on the wall, but all of them have since been taken down.
Weeks isn't the only one to smile in her mug shot, and she's not the only one who has her hair done in her mug shot. It's not a requirement to look like you're on drugs or just got beaten up when they take your picture at jail. But nonetheless, it's something that people have noticed, and I think it's turning out to be a memorable, ironic part of this story. What exactly was going on in her mind as she was brought to jail?
Hopefully all of us can learn to smile through life, just like Ms. Weeks. :):):)
