After 10 consecutive sunny, Saturday mornings, Ormond Beach Youth T-ball’s reached its season finale Saturday, May 16, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. All 10 teams of the league played, and all the players that participated took home trophies commemorate their season.
“It was a lot of fun out there,” said Doug Wigley, the league’s commissioner. “Every game played out here is a one-hour Kodak moment. You see a lot of developing, where a lot of 5-year olds come out that haven’t played any baseball before, They go from not knowing where to hit to ball to picking up a good knowledge of the game.”
Unlike most of the US youth baseball leagues that continue to decline, the Ormond Beach Youth Baseball and Softball Association reached nearly 300 players this year, an increase from past years.
“The city of Ormond blessed us with great facilities,” Wigley added. “We’ve improved our fields, and we have increased over the years. We’re obviously doing something right.”
The T-ball kids will get another chance to create more memorable moments and develop, when the fall season begins in September.
