The following is adapted from a press relase from Ocean Publishing.

Responding to requests from frustrated gardeners and landscapers, the Flagler County Master Gardeners produced a detailed handbook that is factual and easy to use. Because it focuses on an area the U.S. Department of Agriculture calls Florida’s Zone 9A, a designation based on hardiness factors including cold temperatures, Flagler County finally has a book to help everyone have healthier vegetables, fruits, trees and yards.

“Guide to Successful Gardening in Florida’s Zone 9A” is 168 pages of facts, helpful hints, color photographs and calendars for planting, watering and landscaping.

Available through local businesses, such as The Book Rack, Hammock Gardens, Verde Go Nursery, NatureScapes Nursery and Florida Agricultural Museum, the book is divided into key sections, each of which is color-coded for easy location. The sections are gardening basics, planning your landscape, garden chemicals, lawns, shrubs/trees and palms, flowers/vines and ground covers, herbs, fruit, vegetables, wildlife wanted, nuisance wildlife, and coast gardening.

Flagler County Master Gardeners, affiliated with the University of Florida/Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Program, are citizens who receive hours of horticulture training and give back volunteer time to Extension projects.

Frank Gromling, owner of Ocean Publishing and the book’s publisher, said, “I am excited about being able to provide this book to the gardening public in Florida’s Zone 9A, one of the toughest areas in which to grow things. We also are proud to be making the book available through local garden centers and nurseries, because we support small businesses.”
