Tourists staying at the Topaz Motel in Flagler Beach stood on their balconies taking in the activity at the Island Grille on Friday, Nov. 6.
Below them were multiple Tweedle Dees and Tweedle Dums, Alices, Mad Hatters, and one “Rabbit Hole,” all enjoying the Fifth Annual Flagler Education Foundation Josh Crews Writing Project fundraising gala.
The event is in honor of Josh Crews who was killed in an automobile accident on Nov. 21, 2010.
Joe Rizzo, co-owner of the Island Grille, and his wife Teresa were thrilled with the turnout for the event. The couple said 180 tickets were sold, an increase of 100 from the 2014 event.
“Josh was best man at our wedding and tomorrow is our 16th anniversary,” Teresa Rizzo said. “He was an amazing story teller and this event brings together children’s literature and storytelling, and gives everyone a chance to dress up, have a good time and reminisce.”
