Almost a year after the announcement by President Barack Obama on the resumption of diplomatic relations with Cuba, a delegation of 20 business owners, many of them from Central Florida, traveled to Havana and participated in the International Fair of Havana. The delegations included members of the Volusia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
The trade event has been held annually held in Cuba since 1981, and this is the first since the reopening of the U.S. embassy in the socialist country. There were 4,500 exhibitors from over 60 countries.
"Although it is in the beginning stages, the opening of Cuba’s doors is of great interest to U.S. entrepreneurs and of particular appeal to Florida industries," said Carlos Valderrama, founding president of the Volusia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Valderrama signed an agreement of cooperation between the VHCC and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce. "We are interested in promoting commerce from Florida to Cuba,” he said.
