The Seabreeze Sandcrabs (1-2) gave the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs everything they had in the first half but eventually succumbed to the Dawgs’ size and lengthy roster to fall 77-49.

“Their size wore us down,” coach Pepper Johnson said. “We were playing our style of basketball the first half, but Riley (Oldham) picked up three fouls and had to sit out for a while, which hurt us and stopped us from what we were doing, and a few other guys couldn’t get it going.”

The Bulldogs opened the game with a 9-3 lead, but the Sandcrabs’ defensed forced 10 turnovers, which led to a 10-0 run to close out the quarter to put them up 13-9.

In the second quarter, FPC settled down and both teams took turns leading until halftime, where the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a small 29-26 advantage.

The second half belonged to FPC, who used a 18-0 run to separate from the Crabs, and ended up leading by as many as 29 points before sending in its reserves.

Although the game got away from them, the Sandcrabs can rest on the fact that they forced 23 Bulldogs turnovers.

“I like our effort, though,” Johnson said. “We came out and played hard, but they just wore us down. They had more guys than we had. We usually go with 7-8 guys, and they used all of theirs, but they didn’t miss a beat. We don’t have that right now, but we’re going to try to get better at what we do.”
