In the one place you'd think you'd be safe ...
10 p.m. First block of Ballenger Lane. Larceny: A 56-year-old woman took her gray iPad 4 to an evening church meeting Nov. 24, and realized the next day that it had been stolen. She checked with people who'd attended the meeting to see if they had seen it, and no one had. She also checked her car and home to make sure she hadn't just misplaced it. A deputy entered the iPad's serial number into a database as stolen.
A thief who's not in the Christmas spirit
9:17 a.m. First block of Pillory Lane. Larceny: A 65-year-old man woke up early in the morning and looked at his "Star Shower Laser" lights in the front year, but when he went out later to get the morning paper, the lights were gone. The man told a deputy he didn't see anyone or hear anything suspicious. Neither did neighbors. The thief stole two lights, each worth about $40.
Yet more stolen guns
4:24 p.m. First block of Rolling Place. Residential burglary: A 50-year-old man called the Sheriff's Office when he realized that someone stole a black Springfield XDM40 handgun and a black Ruger 9mm handgun from his bedroom closet. A deputy who checked the house saw no signs of forced entry, and noted that there were other valuables in plain view that weren't stolen. The man said the theft happened sometime within the past three weeks. Guns are a frequent target of local thieves.
'What are you doing?' 'Just burglarizing your house, ma'am'
2:03 p.m. First block of Auberry Drive. Burglary: A 39-year-old woman was at home when a man she didn't know knocked at the front door. She didn't answer. The she saw a second man at her rear porch slice a hole in the screen door, reach through, unlock the screen door and approach the rear sliding glass door with a metal pry bar. The woman yelled "What are you doing!" and the man paused, then ran. Both men got into a gray, late-model Hyundai sedan, and it sped off, the woman told deputies. A deputy processed the scene for touch DNA. The Sheriff's Office gave local deputies and law enforcement officers in surrounding counties a description of the car and instructed them to be on the lookout for it, but no one found it.
