“No matter where we were born and raised; no matter how we worship; citizens of Palm Coast come together for this event every year to share peace and brotherhood.” -Mayor Jon Netts
Mr. and Mrs. Claus decided to take a vacation to tropical Palm Coast, Florida, on Monday, Nov. 30. After making a grand entrance on board a Flagler County fire engine, the Claus’ made their way toward the front of the crowd to help Palm Coast Mayor Jon Netts and Rotary Club of Flagler County President Matt Maxell pull the lever to light up an extravagant Christmas tree.
“Five, four, three, two, one!” The citizens of Palm Coast shouted in synchrony.
In moments, a 25-foot Sand Pine, or Pinus Clausa, that had been shaped into a massive Christmas tree, illuminated Central Park at Palm Coast’s Town Center.
The City of Palm Coast kicks-off the month long Fantasy Lights event every year with the tree lighting ceremony. The Pinus Clausa was garnished with glistening strands of lights and ornaments created by the Flagler County Girl Scout troops No.’s 966, 754, 872 and 1527, as well as students from Bunnell Elementary School.
The Fantasy Light display, hosted by the Rotary Club of Flagler County, continues to grow every year. This year the event boasted 40 displays courtesy of various local businesses.
“Any place can be a city, but not everywhere can be a true community,” Fantasy Lights Committee Chairman Bill Butler said. “The Fantasy Lights have become a holiday tradition for many families. The kids always come away smiling.”
