What’s it all about, Alfie’s?
Alfie’s Restaurant in Ormond-by-the-Sea celebrated their 29-year anniversary on Sept. 24.
Betty and Bud Evans opened the original Alfie’s Restaurant in Jamestown, New York in 1969 and moved to their current location at 1666 Oceanshore Blvd. in 1986.
Today, Betty and Bud's son, Greg Evans, and his wife Dina, own and operate the restaurant.
The restaurant is involved with Breast Cancer Awareness, the American Heart Association, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club, the local AARP chapter and several other local fundraisers.

Barr Physical Therapy adds staff
Barr & Associates Physical Therapy, 1425 Hand Ave., Suite H, has announced that Dr. Stacy McDaniel has been added to the staff as an associate. A graduate of the University of St. Augustine and the University of Florida, McDaniel has a doctorate in physical therapy and a master’s degree in occupational therapy.
Hospice has new director
Mary Jo Allen has been named the new executive director of Halifax Health – Hospice, which covers Volusia and Flagler counties. Allen replaces the not-for-profit organization’s former executive, Fran Davis, who retired Sept. 1.
A graduate of the nursing program at the University of Central Florida, Allen also holds master’s degrees in nursing and business administration from the University of Phoenix.
In 2011, she founded Home Health Care of Florida, a Medicare-certified home care agency serving central and north Florida. She previously served as the area director for Gentiva Health Services.
Digital Press names VP
Digital Press Inc. has announced that Chris McDonough, a Seabreeze High School graduate, has been promoted to vice president. McDonough had been working for Digital Press, Inc. in the Jacksonville market. His area of responsibility is client acquisition and sales and social media marketing, according to a press release.
A native of Volusia County, he recently moved back to Ormond Beach.
McDonough graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida’s Coggin College of Business.

Wellness center to expand
Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center on Williamson Boulevard broke ground on a $1.3 million, 6,500-square-foot expansion to the hospital’s Center for Health and Wellness recently. The expansion was made possible through the Florida Hospital Memorial Foundation, the fundraising arm of the hospital.
Officials said it will be a high-end fitness center for residents with an annual membership fee in addition to providing patient therapy
In 2014, the hospital opened the current Center for Health and Wellness on the first floor of the hospital’s medical office building. The 6,165 square-foot center includes cardiac rehabilitation and diabetes education, as well as outpatient physical, speech and occupational therapy.
