Sept. 28

Boat motors stolen

7:06 p.m. 2700 block of State Road 100. Burglary: A man called the Sheriff’s Office and said someone stole the lower unit of his 2010 Mercury 300 motor — which had been on his 24-foot Shearwater — sometime after he’d left his boat at a storage facility on the north side of State Road 100 in Flagler Beach Sept. 20. The boat’s marine radio, tachometer and speedometer were stolen, too, and the man told a deputy that it looked like other boat motors had been stolen as well. “It should be noted that it appears the suspects had knowledge of boat motors,” a deputy wrote in the case report. “The subjects would have had to come prepared with tools etc.” Two more boat motor thefts were reported from the facility the following day — in that case, from a Yamaha F150 and a Suzuki 300 — and another was reported stolen the day after that. The last theft was of the lower unit of a Yamaha 115 4-stroke outboard motor, whose owner reported that the missing lower unit was worth about $3,000. One owner told the deputy that he’d come to the property in the past and found its gate unlocked.

Sept. 30

Real cops don’t do that

2:30 p.m. First block of Big Bear Lane. Suspicious incident: A woman was watching TV the night of Sept. 29 when a dog in the house alerted her that someone was at the door. She saw flashing lights outside, and three men in their 30s or 40s wearing badges around their necks, over dark colored T-shirts and jeans, standing on the cement slab behind the home’s rear sliding door. They were using their cell phones as flash lights. The woman asked them what she could do for them, and one of the man said, “Pamela.” The woman replied that she’d lived there for two years and didn’t know a “Pamela.” She reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office the next day. “Because ... they used cellphones for flashlights, it does not appear that they were legitimate (law enforcement) officers,” a deputy wrote in a commander’s report. The Sheriff’s Office placed an extra watch on the house.

Tooling around

2:38 p.m. 4000 block of Old Kings Road North. Vehicle burglary: Someone twice pried open a 2013 orange and black utility trailer that had been left in a gated, locked empty lot, stealing a red Craftsman tool box filled with about $500 worth of hand tools, including wrenches and socket sets. The trailer also had about $500 worth of damage.
