Nancy Gibbs presented the Second Annual Pink Gala poster award to Isabelle Brenes at Flagler Palm Coast High School. The top three winners were; first place-  Isabelle Brenes, second place- Emily Morris and third place- Logan Johnson.

The Pink Gala will be at 6:30 p.m. , Friday, Oct. 9 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 55 Town Center Blvd. Tickets are $50 each and pink attire is preferred. Tickets are available online at [email protected] or by calling, 437-3318. 

VFW Youth Essay Contest/Scholarship

The Palm Coast Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Auxiliary announce the annual “Patriots Pen” youth essay competition and the “Voice of Democracy” scholarship competition.  Both programs are open to all students, sixth through eighth grade, in Flagler County. This includes private and home school students.


The Patriots Pen Youth Essay is for students in grades 6 through 8.  This year’s theme is: “What Freedom Means to Me.”  This essay must be at least 300 words and cannot exceed 400 words. National prizes range from $500 to $5,000.


The Voice of Democracy essay competition is open to students in grades 9 - 12.  The theme is: “My Vision of America.” Students write and record their original essay.  The three to five minute recording must be in the student’s own voice. The top national scholarship awarded is $30,000.

Entry deadline is Nov. 1.  Winners advance to the VFW District (regional) level, and then to the VFW department (state) level.  One first place district winner at the department level  advances into the National competition for the national prizes.

Food giveaway at First Church

The Women’s Missionary Society of First Church, 91 Old Kings Road N., Palm Coast, will have its monthly food giveaway from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10 at the church. For more information, call 446-5759.
