Residents will be able to exchange books
The idea for a “Little Free Library” program, proposed by high school student Madeline Holt, received approval from the City Commission at a recent meeting.
Holt had presented the idea in May to the Quality of Life Advisory Board, and the board voted unanimously to recommend it to the commission.
Little Free Libraries are small wooden boxes that contain books and have a message saying, “Take a book; return a book.” The idea is that residents would be able to share their books and discover new books.
In the plan approved by the city, the boxes will be constructed by city staff and decorated by a committee formed by Holt. They will be placed at Bailey Riverbridge Gardens, Rockefeller Gardens and the MacDonald House, 38 E. Granada Blvd., home of the Ormond Beach Historical Society. More sites could be added.
Dates of installation will be announced.
