After a little first-mile competition from Tyra Boyd, Kianna Bonnet cruised comfortably to her third straight Five-Star Conference championship Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Flagler County Fairgrounds.
Despite three Top five finishes, the Lady Sandcrabs finished in second place just five points behind Spruce Creek, whose last finisher placed 17th. After the three from Seabreeze finished, the Crabs’ next highest finisher came in 21st.
“Our girls were first, third and fourth, and I am very proud of their performance,” coach Debora Diaz said. “We are looking forward to competing at our district meet.” In addition, both Seabreeze junior varsity teams also earned runner-up places.
For the seventh-place Lady Bucs, Sada Rowley, a transfer from Flagler Palm Coast, led Mainland with a fifth-place finish. Her next closest teammate took 34th.
In the boys’ competition, Seabreeze finished fifth, and Mainland followed in sixth. Deberri was the only local to finish inside the Top 10.
The district meet will be next Friday, Oct. 24, in New Smyrna.
