The Palm Coast Flying Sparrows men’s lacrosse team won first place in the over-18 division by defeating University of Central Florida, Stetson and the University of North Florida in the Pumpkin Shootout, the state’s largest 7v7 tournament, this past weekend at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.
The Sparrows went 3-0 Saturday, making them the first seed in the playoff picture, and, on Sunday morning, they took down their fellow club, the Haunted Sparrows (over-35 team) 18-8 in the quarter final of the playoffs. They Palm coast Sparrows ran away from UCF in the championship with a 20-11 win.
Byron Catroppa, who scored 21 goals and had 12 assists, and Danny Meyer, who scored 27 goals and 7 assists, led the Sparrows. Goalie Ryan Mac was in cage and had 17 saves, and Mark Somitis and Lee Testor led the defense.
The Palm Coast Sparrows made history as the first Palm Coast men's team to win at this event.
They will next play in the Veteran’s Day Shootout, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8, at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.
