Church gets souped-up donation
Pastor Robbie O’Brien, of Salty Church, 211 Vining Court, announced recently that a 1969, red Camaro has been received as a donation from a church member and will be raffled off on Christmas Eve. The car has been rebuilt including a new Chevrolet 454 engine, transmission and interior.
“We were completely surprised by the donation and weren’t sure how we were going to maximize the gift,” O’Brien said. “We decided that giving the car back to someone for the holidays would be perfect.”
All proceeds from raffle ticket sales will help provide programs for the children and youth ministry, according to a press release.
The car will be on display at the church’s fifth annual Christmas at Rockefeller Garden's event on Dec. 19. Tickets will be available at the event, and are now available online at salty.org/raffle.
The donator of the car, who did not want to be identified, said it was a car that he always wanted in his youth. It was restored when he found it, but he “muscled it up,” even more, he said.
He said it’s the most special car he has and that’s why he wanted to donate it to the church.
“For all Jesus did for us, the least I can do is give my car,” he said.
The suggested donation is $30 per ticket or four for $100. The winner does not have to be present to win.
Market for a Mission returns
Market for a Mission, a large rummage sale to benefit the Jerry Doliner Food Bank, has been planned for the second year by Thrivent Financial.
Featuring crafts, plants, books, food and a variety of vendors and professional booths, the market will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 14 at the Offices at Oak Park, 595 N. Nova Road.
“What’s cool is that area churches get together,” said Diane Skelley, of Thrivent.
Churches throughout the area collect items and sell them at the event. She said it was a success last year and they are very excited that this year will be even better.
“Our goal is to donate 100 turkeys at Christmas,” she said.
