The Palm Coast Arts Foundation announced that Thomas Corum, a long-time resident of Palm Coast and Founding member was one of three recognized  for outstanding service to the community at a ceremony on Friday, Aug. 21, at Florida Hospital Flagler. His nomination was submitted by PCAF member Kathy Winner.

Corum’s nomination was predominantly in recognition of his leadership role in the Palm Coast Arts Foundation.  He has been a driving force behind PCAF’s project in Town Center of creating a cultural hub for the community.  Phase I of the multi-phased project will soon break ground and he plans to be there with his hard hat and shovel in hand.

“This has been a long time coming, and now with such great community support, we will soon have an outdoor stage in which to start attracting a variety of entertainment to what will eventually become Palm Coast’s downtown,” Corum said.

“Tom is one of a kind.  We owe our success to him,” Sam Perkovich, President of the Palm Coast Arts Foundation said. “He has never given up on our vision of the Center for the Arts, and has been a friend and colleague in working through all the obstacles along the way.  Being a lawyer, Tom has been able to provide PCAF with legal counseling from organizational structure to contractual matters”.

Other recipients of the National Senior Awards were Sonia Byrne and Jo Ann Smerdon.  Posthumous awards were presented in honor of outstanding contributions by Dr. John Canakaris and Sandra Rose Friedman.  Vice Mayor Bill McGuire led the ceremony with a reading of the original 1988 Proclamation.
