The following is an adapted news release from Flagler Schools:

A 7th-grade Indian Trails Middle School student was struck in a hit-and-run crash the morning of Sept. 25 at the corner of Brookside Lane and Belle Terre Parkway.

The child’s parent was called to the scene, and decided to take the child to Florida Hospital Flagler as a precaution.

This is the second time within a week that a middle school student has been struck on their way to school: On Monday, a school bus struck a Buddy Taylor 8th grader, causing minor injuries.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Sept. 25 crash, and deputies are looking for a small, black, four-door car, possibly a Toyota, with a white stripe on the door. The identity of the driver, who drove away from the scene, is unknown.

Anyone with information about the car is asked to contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office at 386-437-4116.

Flagler Schools wants to remind motorists to pay close attention while on all roads — both major transportation arteries and neighborhood streets — throughout the school year, and watch out for students as they make their way to and from school.
