“The last time I was diagnosed with cancer will be the final time. I have better things to do.”
─Traci Leggett
Traci Leggett was diagnosed with cancer and overcame the disease four separate times throughout her lifetime. On Friday, Sept. 25, a surprise party was thrown by Linda Bruyn, for her daughter Traci. Over 85 guests attended the party, many of which were fellow cancer survivors. Donations from guests helped raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
“I did not dwell on having cancer when I am diagnosed,” Traci Leggett recalled. “I just kept putting one foot in front of the other. I feel a person cannot fight cancer if they muse on being sick. Having my children to care for helped me to push through, as well as the love and support of my family.”
Traci’s brothers, Darren and Christopher Leggett, also attended the party as a surprise. She broke into tears as Christopher presented her with a bouquet of flowers and grabbed her into a tight hug.
“I am ecstatic to have my daughter well and here with me tonight,” Linda Bruyn said. “Traci is my best friend and I love her to death.” Leggett moved to Palm Coast from Connecticut in August. Now she and her joyous mother live only six minutes apart.
