Amanda Raleigh, four-year varsity soccer letterman for Flagler Palm Coast, was honored as the Flagler Rotary Scholar-Athlete for the month of March.
Raleigh recently represented the North Region of Florida in the Florida Coaches Association Senior All-Star Soccer Classic, where she played 75% of the minutes for two games. The North beat the South 2-0 on Friday and then tied the West 3-3 in the championship game. Raleigh scored a header off a corner kick in the game.
Raleigh is the only player in FPC history to win four straight district championships. She started all four years at center back. She also played three won the conference championships, and she played on FPC’s only Final Four team. Raleigh will be attending the University of South Carolina Upstate.
Pacifico wows at future home, again
Since committing to the University of Florida, senior runner Justin Pacifico has visited the school twice for competitions, and he’s run away from his competition in all of his races. Pacifico’s most recent wins came at the Pepsi Florida Relays this past weekend, where he won the 800-meter race with a third consecutive personal best 1:51:87, which is 20 seconds behind the nation’s fastest time this year, and he teamed up with fellow Bulldogs Dominic Green, Slade Cavallaro and Ka’Deem Wynn to win the 4x800-meter relay, the eighth-best time in the nation.
“It’s always intense (competing at UF) but fun,” he said.
Pacifico’s 1:51 puts him just two seconds shy of Sammy Vaszuez’s 1:49 school record, which he hopes to break before he graduates.
He, along with the FPC track teams, will next be in action in the Five-Star Conference meet Friday, April 8, at Deltona High School.
Celestino is unhittable
The Palm Coast Crush 13U recently won the USSSA Spring Fever Baseball Tournament in March, in Ormond Beach.
Aedan Celestino was credited as the tournament’s top performer, due to pitching a no hitter in Game No. 1. Tate Underburg went on to pitch the Crush to victory in Game 2, and Nathan Quinn pitched a two-hitter to wrap up a 9-1 win and the championship.
