“I knew we’ve had so many upsets from Seabreeze in the past, and I was just thinking in my head, ‘I cannot go home with another lost to Seabreeze.’”
JASMINE HADLEY
In the battle of the unbeatens, the Mainland Lady Buccaneers shut out their crosstown rivals, Seabreeze, 18-0 on Tuesday, April 5, at Mainland.
The Lady Sandcrabs went into the game as the fourth-ranked team in the state in Class 1A, and Mainland ninth.
The Bucs got on the board early, when Mikayla Green caught a pass in the backfield and then found Jasmine Hadley in the end zone for the score. After exchanging the ball for the next two quarters, quarterback Tahara Williams connected with Hadley twice in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Hadley also caught two interceptions.
“It’s all in my coaching. We come out here and grind every day, and we take no days off,” Hadley said. “Our confidence is at an all-time high right now,” Hadley said. “We’re undefeated, but we’re going to keep grinding every day. I don’t want to sleep tonight; it feels so good.”
The Sandcrabs will look to get back to their winning ways when they take on Deltona at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Deltona, while the Bucs hope to continue their run against Atlantic at 5 p.m. the same day at Atlantic.
