Riverbend Academy plays soccer against OBPD

The game was a part of the inaugural Back the Blue event.

The Ormond Beach Police Department hit the field with the students of Riverbend Academy for the inaugural Back the Blue event April 7. 

Over 30 sworn and non-sworn members of OBPD and 300 students and families enjoyed the festivities, which included a coed soccer game, music, information from the OBPD motor and crime scene units and a vintage Mayberry police car. Police Chief Captain Jesse Godfrey got the students attention by guarding the net wearing a defensive tactics suit. 

"The students and stage at Riverbend Academy were so welcoming and kind," said Officer Jay Brennan. "They are also very talented on the soccer field. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved." 

The policemen left with smiles, gifts, cards and the promise of a rematch.
