Bryce Wolfe is a cat person. Toboe Wolfe is a dog person. Though there might be a fierce rivalry between their favorite household pets, the two bothers came together to embark on one peaceful mission: to save them both.
For their birthdays this year — Bryce Wolfe is 11 years old, and Tobee Wolfe is 4 years old —they asked their friends and families to bring them donations they could give to the Halifax Humane Society. These young Ormond Beach residents gathered food, toys, pet shampoo, bedding, leashes, and newspapers for the society to use.
"Every two to three weeks I get a call about a birthday party," Community Outreach Director Amber Marcoux said.
Marcoux said there are tons of other ways for young people to give back, including car washes to raise money, food drives, creating pet crafts like catnip toys or "adopt me" signs, and also volunteering with the society's junior volunteer program, available to anyone under the age of 18 accompanied by a parent or guardian.
"Another way we can help is by teaching children to be responsible and kind to animals," she said. "That helps the situation overall. And of course, by adopting a pet."
